Night Shelling & Snorkeling Tour FAQ

Everything you need to know before your Siesta Key, Sarasota or Anna Maria Island night shelling tour.

What tours do you offer?

Night Shelling & Snorkeling Tours: 75 minutes of guided shelling and snorkeling in calm, shallow water, ending with a 15-minute show-and-tell. We run tours in Siesta Key, Sarasota and Anna Maria Island.

How much does a tour cost?

$60 per adult (ages 12+) and $45 for ages 6-11. Children 5 and under are free with a parent, but they must be booked in advance by text at 941-229-8372.

How long is the tour?

75 minutes: about 60 minutes in the water, then a 15-minute show-and-tell on the beach where our guides help identify what you found. Bring only what you will use in that time. Arrive 20 minutes before your start time.

What is a night shelling & snorkeling tour?

A guided evening in shallow water (under 4 feet) with an LED light pod for each group, so you can see shells and sea life on the bottom after dark. You find shells while snorkeling or wading, and our guides lead the whole way.

Where do the tours meet?

We run tours in three areas: Siesta Key, Sarasota and Anna Maria Island. Arriving at the wrong one is a no-show, so check the exact meeting spot in your booking confirmation. Addresses are listed on our homepage under Where We Meet.

What time do tours start?

Tours start nightly at 8:30 PM, weather permitting. Please arrive 20 minutes early to check in and get fitted with gear. See each location’s booking calendar for live availability.

Do I need experience?

No. Most guests have never snorkeled at night. The water is under 4 feet deep, our guides give a short briefing and stay with the group, and you can wade and shell without ever putting your face in the water.

What ages can join?

All ages are welcome. Children 5 and under join free with a parent and need hands-on supervision. They must bring their own properly fitted life jacket and water shoes, because we don’t provide swim gear for guests this young.

What gear do I need?

Just your swimsuit. We provide aqua socks (yours to keep), snorkel mask and gear, a glow stick, a safety noodle and whistle, a mesh collection bag, a net, and a 10,000-lumen LED light pod for each group. Guests 5 and under should bring their own life jacket and water shoes.

What to wear?

Dress to get wet: swimwear, quick-dry shorts and shirts, or a rash guard. Bring a light cover-up for cooler evenings and a towel with dry clothes for afterward. Leave valuables and anything that can’t get wet (phones, wallets, keys, jewelry, non-waterproof cameras) behind.

Should I bring bug spray?

It’s up to you. If you use it, put it on before you arrive so it’s dry when you get in the water.

What shells and sea life will we see?

You’ll look for Gulf Coast shells such as whelks, scallops, olives, conchs and sand dollars, plus crabs, seahorses and fish in the grass flats. It’s wild nature, so we can’t guarantee any particular find. Take home empty shells only. Anything alive is observed briefly and returned to the water.

Can we bring drinks or a cooler?

Yes to both. The tour is only 75 minutes, so bring just what you will use.

What about trash?

Please take all your trash and everything you bring with you when you leave, so we keep the water and shoreline clean for the wildlife and the next guests.

Is there parking? Are there restrooms?

Parking is free. There are no public restrooms at our meeting spots, so please use facilities before you arrive.

What if I’m late?

Guests must arrive 20 minutes before start time. We start on time so we can complete the safety briefing, and we cannot hold the group. Late arrivals are marked as a no-show, and no refunds or rescheduling will be issued.

What is your cancellation policy?

72 hours or more before tour start time: 100% refund. Between 72 and 24 hours before: non-refundable, but you may reschedule once or receive a raincheck. Less than 24 hours before, late arrivals and no-shows: non-refundable, with no rescheduling or rainchecks. Cancellation requests must be sent by text or email and are timed from receipt.

What happens in bad weather?

Tours run rain or shine as long as conditions are safe. Only Fun Florida Tours can cancel a tour. We cancel before the start time for heavy sustained rain, nearby lightning or unsafe high winds, and you can then choose a full refund, a reschedule or a raincheck. For safety we may move the meeting location or change the start time. We will notify you by text and email beforehand, and no refund or reschedule applies for a location or time change. If a tour starts and is cut short by weather, it counts as completed with no refund or raincheck. If you do not hear from us, your tour is on as scheduled.
